How is Lufthansa’s non-Schengen Senator Lounge in Munich now?

This lounge was reviewed in late-September 2021 on a connecting itinerary from London to Paphos, Cyprus.

Munich Airport the neglected second hub airport of Lufthansa - German Airlines was the location of our transit en-route to Cyprus (and back for that matter). I didn’t expect much from this lounge and my expectations were low, so I was probably going to be impressed by the smallest good thing about it!

Finding the lounge is pretty easy, just follow the yellow signs for Lufthansa Lounge.

On this visit, we were staying in the Senator portion of the lounge. For those who haven’t heard of this, Senator is the name for Lufthansa’s Star Alliance Gold members. I entered the lounge using my TAP Portugal Gold card.

There is some natural daylight, that comes from an terminal atrium…

…but some parts of the lounge are pretty dark thanks to the furniture and lounge colour schemes. On the plus side, the dark, dated chairs were very comfortable.

Other parts of the lounge also feature dining style seating - as well as more sunlight here.

The lounge features an extensive serviced bar with a great choice of beverages…

…including alcoholic, chilled soft and hot drinks.

The bar staff also made an excellent cappuccino which was vastly superior to the self-serve machines on offer.

Food was pretty limited on our visit - so much so I didn’t even bother taking photos. There was some snacks also available which came in eco-friendly reusable glass jars - pretty neat considering how much plastic is being wasted in the name of Covid-prevention.

Although the toilets were not nice, more akin to a public shopping centre, the shower rooms were great! Spacious, clean and comfortable with hot, powerful showers. Be aware though, you will have to book as soon as you arrive and wait your turn to get into here.

And featuring premium L’Occitane soap, shampoo, conditioner and moisturiser - excellent choice Lufthansa!

Although the food left much to be desired in this lounge, thanks to Covid regulations and Lufthansa cutbacks, the rest of the experience was pretty decent. It wasn’t overcrowded, there was plenty of comfortable seating and excellent shower rooms. It is pretty dated but equally its a decent place to spend a layover whilst in Munich.

Although completed unconnected, does anybody else still think it’s crazy that Munich, and I assume other German airports, have smoking lounges?! I remember these only from when I was about 6 years old in the UK!
