Authentic tacos on the Las Vegas strip

Las Vegas is a lot of things but finding authenticity is hard. That’s clearly by design with a destination that is built upon gambling and being excessive in life - from food to everyday activities people do there. One delight I found was a brilliant taco shop opposite the newly built Resorts World Las Vegas.

Tacos El Gordos is a small chain that sells Tijuana-inspired food in several outlets in California and Nevada. It certainly deserves to be on your list of must-visits while in Las Vegas.

Their outlet is an authentic, canteen environment that is unpretentious and unfussy. Guests can order food from the grill area at the specific counter ranging from fillings including pork, beef and other options with a crispy taco or soft tortilla.

In a slightly confusing fashion, you must then head to a separate cashier area to pay. Credit and debit cards are accepted.

Keep an eye out for their creepy mascot who is clearly acting as their security guard.

Portions are quite small but perfect for sharing. I love this because it means you can have a tapas-style experience and try a bit of everything - and not spend too much money in the process.

We did go up several times and try various dishes. All were fresh, tasty and full of flavours that wowed against the various big chain fare you will find in other parts of Las Vegas.

If you are looking for something more authentic and tastier, Tacos El Gordo provides an excellent tasting experience for everybody including budget travellers. You will come out of here feeling full and satisfied - with a little spice included. It’s just ten minutes’ walk from the Las Vegas Convention Center, where I was visiting for the NAB conference in April this year.
